Previously there were two another blogs that I made, and this is the third one. The first one started when I was in Mercer as an exchange student in 2012, and was interestingly mixed with some random thoughts/journals until last year. The second one, Kai's adventure after graduation, started shortly after I graduated last year (around January); I intentionally want to make it more like a study journal, recording some reading and the experience of being a research assistant, but obviously I also mixed in some frustration in the PhD application process, and later on my work at HKBU became super crazy (that I want to talk more about) which is probably why I stopped writing. Both blogs pretty well represented my growing path over the past three years.
After I stopped writing the last two blogs, I actually got very immersed in the research and the results are fortunately get published at Nature Scientific Report together with the researchers in City University of Hong Kong (http://www.nature.com/srep/2014/141117/srep07074/full/srep07074.html). Thanks to our great efforts. It is the first publication in my career and is definitely significant to be memorized. I trained three undergraduates who are in final year with cell culture techniques to facilitate them for the bachelor's thesis. I mentored the BIOMOD 2014 team with the DNA origami synthesis techniques and later on we went to Boston (in November, 2014) and won a silver prize on that. And I left Hong Kong in early September for my master degree in biomedical imaging in University of California, San Francisco (in mid September). This is a really fantastic year and open way more opportunities that I could imagine.
Now I am dedicated to my master degree thesis at San Francisco VA Medical Center. I am not allowed to write much about this research due to the law and policy, but I am very enjoying the time here. VA has a gorgeous view of the San Francisco Bay and Pacific Ocean, and I am feeling like working in a heaven when the foggy clouds hits the hill.
Basically I still want this blog to be academic, that it records the readings and thoughts of my daily life and research. At the same time, I am also taking courses at coursera, the John Hopkins University's Data Sciences Specialization. This may last about several months or longer, and it is entirely depend on how fast and efficient I want to learn. So I will also make some posts related to the coursera study. I will try to be as organized as possible, although sometimes it is hard to get clear headlines/titles/knowledges/whatever...
